Clear emerald water and white sand along the South Walton shoreline

Where 30A Bonfires
Are Allowed

Beach fires are only permitted at certain public accesses in South Walton, and each one has a limited number of permits per night. Here is every beach we use, with parking and directions.

Staying in Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Seaside or WaterColor? Those beaches are private, so we set up at the closest public access, usually Inlet Beach, Santa Clara or Grayton. Beachfront homes may qualify for a private fire with the owner's written consent.

The Permit Guide

South Walton Fire District sets the rules for beach fires. We follow every one of them, so your night is never cut short.

A permit for every fire

Every beach bonfire in South Walton needs a SWFD permit. We buy it for you about 14 days out. A fire without one carries a $500 fine.

Set hours by season

March to October, equipment goes out after 5 PM and is gone by midnight. November to February, after 4 PM and gone by 11 PM.

Space for sea turtles

Fires sit at least 200 feet from turtle nests and 50 feet from the dunes. Nesting season can shift a fire to a nearby access.

No glass, balloons or fireworks

Glass can bring a $250 fine per item. Balloons, confetti, floating lanterns and fireworks are not allowed.

Six tiki torches at most

The county caps torches at six per event, so our larger packages max out at six.

30 guests or more

Bigger groups need a Walton County special event permit too, and only one is issued per access each night.
